Hi, my name is Alex Walp. I am an artist currently based in Columbus, Ohio. I make art using several different media. You can see examples of that below along with an artist statement.

I also run a blog called You Probably Already Know About This... Here you can listen to some music and remixes that I’ve made and you can see some artists and musicians that I’m interested in.

You can contact me via email at amwalp@gmail.com.

By using imagery that borrows from popular culture, 20th century history and rock and roll I create work that addresses issues of identity from the personal to the global level. I aim to produce a body of work that handles identity as a fluid object, constantly in flux.

This is an installation view taken during my show at Skylab in Columbus, Ohio. The show took place March 1st and 2nd, 2008 and was called “Coke and Sympathy”.

The “Pieces of the Berlin Wall” (2008) were fabricated using styrofoam, spray paint and house paint. The configuration is dynamic and changes depending on the context in which they are presented.

Another installation view from “Coke and Sympathy”.

This is a screenprint on the inside of a paper cup. It is part of a series where the same list of “good names for a hardcore band” is printed on various pieces of trash.

This is a screenprint on paper. It is a reproduction of a cover from the sixties counterculture magazine  “Oz”.

Self-portrait, screen print on paper.

Screenprint on paper of Stevie Nicks. Each print in this edition was washed under water after it was printed and therefore each print has unique ink smearing.

This is a screenprint on paper. It is a reproduction of a late-sixties advertisement to send in photographs and have them converted into posters.
